Appathon - the competition that is inspiring innovation in young people

The Appathon is a nationwide competition coordinated by Founders4Schools to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship in young people. The contest will see primary and secondary school, together with university students, create apps that they think could change their lives for the better. School students will work in teams to create apps and a vote will determine the winning ideas. University students will then build the favourite app ideas into working prototypes which will then be judged at a national level. The winning team goes to California to spend time with leading technology giants like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Schools, colleges and universities can all join the competition and run workshops of their own for students who are inspired to create apps. The attached worksheet provides teachers and students with all the information they need to formulate their ideas and structure a workshop session. Additional information is available online for teachers, parents and students.

Businesses can also get involved and show their support for the visionary entrepreneurs of tomorrow by hosting an Appathon workshop at their offices or offering prizes to the winning team. Prizes could include:

  • a tour of their business
  • a work experience place for the winning team from a local school
  • lunch with the CEO
  • providing mentors or judges to schools who need assistance with their contests
  • monetary, or in kind donations
  • hosting a winners award ceremony.

Contact the team at Founders 4 Schools if you want to offer a prize to the winning team or host an Appathon event.
