Are you looking for ways to support young people into work?

Please take a look at three wonderful opportunities to inspire young people in Buckinghamshire.

Could you deliver a talk to young people about the recruitment and interview process within your business?

‘Raise Your Game’ is a Bucks Youth Service project for people aged 16-19 that allows young people the opportunity to develop skills and confidence in the area of employment, and helps young people create and develop their CV’s and gain skills and techniques needed for the interview process and employment itself.

Could you go along to a session and deliver a talk on recruitment and the interview process, with a specific focus on some of the ‘soft skills’ that employers look for in potential employees, such as communication skills? The project requires employers who are passionate about employing young people, perhaps with the experience of recruiting young people in the past. This is a fantastic way to raise your profile as a business to young people in the area and to engage first-hand with potential new employees.

As the project is delivered in Aylesbury and works with young people in the area, ‘Raise your Game’ is ideally looking for an employer local to Aylesbury.

The project is run on Wednesday’s between 10.30am-12.30pm at the Uptown Coffee Bar in Aylesbury. Could you visit one Wednesday in May? If so, please contact Jane Nicholson: jnicholson@buckscc.gov.uk / 01296 383236.

Find out how taking on a work placement student with learning difficulties can be a wonderful experience for both student and employer.

Pebble Brook School is a sixth form dedicated to giving its students, who have various learning difficulties, the life skills and experiences that will help them hold down jobs and make the most of life. These students are very capable but may need more mentoring than most, which is why the focus is always on what the students can do rather than what they can not.

Over the last two years 23 students have benefited from work experience placements and of these, four have been taken on into apprenticeships. Clearly these students have a lot to offer. Can you provide a work placement for one of them?

You can hear for yourself the great benefits of doing so at an event on Thursday 4 June. You will hear from employers  who have had success with Pebble Brook students, the students themselves and guest speaker Rosa Monckton, herself the mother of a daughter with Downs Syndrome.

This is a wonderful opportunity for businesses to give something back to the community and support young people with learning difficulties, becoming an example to other employers of what can be achieved.

The event is at Pebble Brook School, Aylesbury, 10am, Thursday 4 June. To book: 01296 415761 / jrobson@pebblebrookschool.com.

Do you have experience of working with schools and colleges in Buckinghamshire?

As part of the government’s Inspiration Agenda programme, local charity Adviza are running conferences to bring together schools, colleges and speakers from across the public and private sectors to look at the role that employers play in informing young people about the world of work.

Can you share your experiences of working with schools and colleges in the areas of careers education, information, advice, guidance and enterprise? A short presentation would suffice, and would complement the other speakers and workshops at the conferences involving Ofsted and leaders in the careers field.

To find out more contact Tony Inga of Adviza: tonyinga@adviza.org.uk.
