Do you have an active workplace? Get your staff moving at lunchtime!

Workplace Walks is a joint initiative between Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council, which encourages people who are inactive during their working day to get up and move about at lunchtime.

Workplace Walks are being developed around the major business parks in Wycombe, starting with Cressex, which has a Local Nature Reserve on its doorstep. The walks will take no more than 30 minutes, perfect for taking advantage of nice weather and perhaps to hold a meeting on the move.

Sedentary behaviour is not simply a lack of physical activity but a distinct behaviour in its own right and often associated with chronic illnesses such as heart disease. Today, the majority of Britons spend a large proportion of their day sitting, while even those who meet the recommended levels of physical activity, may be at risk of health problems by spending most of their day sitting down.

Businesses need to think of the health of their staff. After all, a healthy workforce is a productive one. If you are interested in promoting Workplace Walks in your workplace, email sheila.bees@wycombe.gov.uk.
