Eco Centre set for big launch in Aylesbury

This launch comes ahead of the opening next spring of the Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm, to complement the Eco Centre.

The Rare Breeds Farm and Eco Centre was the dream 38 years ago of Ray Marzec. In 2002, Ray bought the site at Hogshaw in Buckinghamshire, beginning by converting three barns into dwellings to fund his dream project. Over time, Ray's plan evolved to bring together the conservation of endangered wild animals, good locally sourced food, heritage fruit and veg, renewable energy systems, waste prevention and conservation of wildlife.

The project was helped into existence by £50,000 of funding from the LEADER programme, which funds rural projects throughout Buckinghamshire. LEADER Project Manager Nick Phillips said: “This project was a unique and brave proposal, which involved a considerable leap of faith. Mr Marzec has invested his savings, home and half his life’s work into getting the farm and the animals.”

The Eco Centre opens on Monday October 20th and bookings are now being taken to use the events room, with Buckinghamshire Business First members receiving a discount for doing so. The large, light and airy events room is ideal for meetings and training, exhibitions, functions and special events. The room can seat up to 80 people and for their money, businesses will have full use of the room, parking facilities, toilets, tables and chairs, refreshments and AV equipment with flipchart.

Next spring the 44 acre farm will open its doors and will feature rare breeds farm animals, large plat spaces for children, inside and out, a nature trail, an orchard and a walled garden to supply the cafe.
