Entrepreneurs take centre stage on our Mix96 show

Buckinghamshire Business First members reveal their golden advice on how to make it as a business leader.

The focus of the second Buckinghamshire Business First radio show on Mix96 was something that Buckinghamshire is blessed with many of: entrepreneurs.

As our Chairman Alex Pratt pointed out on Monday night’s show, which is available to download if you missed it, Buckinghamshire Business First was formed by entrepreneurs and is the backbone of the Entrepreneurial Heart of Britain.

Several shining examples of business leaders made appearances on the show: Janis Anderson of CareMark, Nick Coleman and Udhi Silva of Medical Supermarket, Rosie Harding of Amodeo Design, Mark Harris of Enterprise Doctor, and last but never least Tony Laurenson of Global Infusion Group.

Highlights included:

  • Entrepreneurs being described at one time or another as enterprising, hungrier for success than the average person, resilient, those who follow their gut feeling, take calculated risks, spot opportunities that no one else does and act upon them, and as Alex Pratt put it “slightly off the wall”!
  • Various tips on how to succeed in business, including knowing your competition, mastering pricing strategies, targeting growing markets, doing something you’re good at, not thinking of making money as the primary objective, to make your own luck and spot an opportunity and seize it.
  • Recruitment tips from the business leaders, including Janis Anderson’s advice to ensure you do the leg work of advertising in shop windows if necessary and Nick Coleman explaining the virtue of making sure you hire based on someone’s personality, ensuring staff will fit in to your team ethic.
  • Extolling the benefits of doing business in Buckinghamshire, including the connectivity links with London and the “shop local” attitude of local businesses helping each other.
  • The promotion of Buckinghamshire Business First’s available support, including access to finance, advice from knowledgeable experts and acting as the link between business and local government for those that want to have their say on important issues.
  • Tony Laurenson’s story of when Lou Reed took Global Infusion Group to America!

The importance of digital to businesses was a recurring theme, something that set up next week’s show perfectly with its theme of…you guessed it, digital!

Remember to tune in on Monday evening from 7pm-8pm on Mix 96. If you can’t listen live, remember to download the podcast here on the Mix 96 website.
