Exercise + charity = a healthier world in so many ways

Staff at Buckinghamshire Business First are getting active in the name of charity by tackling the London Marathon; a good time to highlight some initiatives that will give workplace health the attention it needs.

Buckinghamshire Business First’s Luke Faulkner and John Rizzo-Naudi are taking on the London Marathon this weekend to raise money for their respective charities, Child Bereavement UK and RP Fighting Blindness. Good luck guys, we’ll be cheering you on!

The London Marathon is a popular way for those wanting to raise money for a good cause to do so, but the value of healthy living and charitable work has an impact extending well beyond any single event.

Next month sees Workplace Health Week (18-22 May); meaning there’s no better time to encourage your staff to get active. By now there is no excuse for not putting two and two together and seeing that a healthy workforce is a productive one, so don’t cost your business money by being complicit in unhealthy practices at work, and do encourage your staff to be healthy outside of the office. Homo sapiens are driven by many factors, and if adding a charitable spin to healthy living (sponsored cycles, fruit sales etc.) gets more people active and eating healthily, then why wouldn’t you?

This means that you can have your (metaphorical) cake and eat it by encouraging your staff to live active, healthy lifestyles that improve their lives and increase their productivity at work, while at the same time you can raise money for charity or help out with good deeds that support your local community.

As if the stars were aligning perfectly, it just so happens to be Responsible Business Week this week; a great opportunity for businesses to proudly demonstrate the positive impacts they have made, and learn about ways to do more. This ties in with what most businesses now have to think about; Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

If you are wondering how to go about meeting your CSR goals, you’re in luck, because there happens to be a free event called ‘Support and information for businesses with their Corporate Social Responsibility goals’ next month that would be perfect for you.

Delivered by The Rotary Club in partnership with Collaborent, Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and Buckinghamshire Business First, the event does what it says on the tin.
