If so, we’d love you to apply for the position of Buckinghamshire Business First Non-Executive Director.

Roles and Responsibilities

Role: Buckinghamshire Business First Non-Executive Director

Accountable to: Alex Pratt OBE, Chairman

Time commitment: Approx. 30 hours per year

Fees: No fee; reasonable expenses will be reimbursed

Main purpose of the Board

To provide entrepreneurial leadership of the company and develop and promote its collective vision of the company’s purpose, its culture, its values and the behaviours it wishes to promote in conducting its business.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising and monitoring the management of the Company; and ensure compliance with codes of governance.
  • Devote time to a formal induction, including visiting and talking with senior and middle managers to understand the main areas of business activity
  • Stay well-informed about issues affecting the Company and refresh ones own knowledge and skills
  • Uphold high standards of integrity
  • Take into account differing perspectives of shareholders and other stakeholders
  • Help elect a Chair and Vice Chair.
  • Contribute to setting of clear Vision, Mission, Objectives and Strategy to be delegated to the Executive to deliver.
  • Help the Executive to succeed and fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
  • Recognise collective responsibility and adhere to and support Board decisions.

Skills and experience

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and experience of setting up or running a company
  • Passion for the economic health of Buckinghamshire
  • Previous Board level experience in a private sector organisation
  • Excellent communicator
  • Creative and flexible thinker, emotionally intelligent and resilient
  • Able to inspire colleagues, build trust, act with integrity, and be relied upon
  • Identify with Company values
  • Ability to carry out the ‘ambassadorial role’ the position requires
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and build relationships readily
  • Confidence to challenge constructively in Board meetings
  • Track record of active leadership and achieving positive change.
