Opportunity for those in the Food and Drink industry

Businesses can receive funding to work on projects in partnership with academic institutions and graduates through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), which are to be established as part of a £2.3m scheme from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and other funders.

The aim of this initiative is to improve the competitiveness, resilience and responsiveness of the agri-food supply chain and give businesses access to the UK knowledge base so that they can develop innovative solutions to global challenges facing the agri-food sector. The competition will provide new opportunities for open innovation and knowledge exchange across supply chains and sectors and will encourage business growth as a result.

Businesses can apply to the scheme to receive part-funding for a project they wish to work on, which would be alongside an academic institution and recently qualified person. This three-way collaboration would form a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. A total of 25 KTPs will be supported through this competition.

Applications are now being received and the competition is open on a rolling basis until 11 February 2015.

As well as TSB and Defra, the other funders involved in the scheme are Invest Northern Ireland, the Scottish Funding Council and the Welsh Government.
