Taking local businesses global – how embracing digital is the only way to go

Our members took to the airwaves this week to speak about building websites, SEO, video production, social media and mobile responsive websites. In addition, with the government’s Cyber Streetwise campaign in full flow, there’s so much for businesses to gain from engaging with digital right now.

The Buckinghamshire Business First podcast on Mix96 is itself one example of the development of technology and how organisations can make use of it. On this week’s show Max Hailey revealed that Mix96 reaches ex-pats living in New Zealand who regularly download its podcasts! And with millennials and the generation after them (your future employees) growing up with this technology, the future is now as far as embracing it in your business is concerned.

Digital is dominating business now, providing companies with plenty of options for engaging with customers, including online tutorials, webinars, taking bookings and payments online and including video content on websites, something that can ensure people spend more time on your website and push your site up the search engine results pages.

Buckinghamshire Business First members Stuart Miller, Shared Creative, York Woodford-Smith, Five on a Bike and Annie Penn, Smokin’ Donut, were the guests on the latest Buckinghamshire Business First radio show and all had great knowledge to pass on when it comes to making the most of digital.

From building a fantastic website for a business and training people to update it themselves, to creating engaging videos showcasing what a business does, via helping you master social media, these businesses are part of the digital revolution – and they want to tell you how you will benefit by joining that same revolution.

Listen to the podcast here and remember to tune in next week when the topic is on staff engagement, or how to keep you staff happy, loyal and productive!

Cyber Streetwise campaign

Cyber Streetwise is a major government campaign that aims to persuade small businesses and consumers to adopt good online habits, which will protect their devices and information from the majority of cyber threats.

There are simple steps that you can take that will help protect your business from cyber criminals. The campaign focuses on three key behaviours:

  • Using strong passwords made up of three random words
  • Installing security software on all devices
  • Regularly downloading software updates.

Find out more about keeping your business safe online and get all the latest information on the campaign by following @cyberstreetwise on Twitter.

If you want to spread the word about cyber security, you can download the Cyber Streetwise supporters toolkit and promote the content at your office, on your website and on social media.
