In 2012/13 1,800 businesses in Buckinghamshire took on over 3,000 apprentices, so we know that there is a move within the county to support young people into work and to reap the benefits of taking on an apprentice.

According to research, 96% of employers that take on an apprentice report benefits to their business with 72% reporting improved productivity as a result of employing an apprentice, at an average of an additional £214 a week per apprentice.

There is funding available to help those who wish to take on an apprentice. The AGE 16 to 24 Apprenticeship Grant for Employers offers up to £1,500 per apprentice to businesses that would otherwise not be in a position to recruit.

The Buckinghamshire Apprenticeship Grant scheme is intended to help Buckinghamshire employers offer local people aged 16-18 employment via an apprenticeship. If an apprentice falls within a priority group, the grant offer is up to £2,500. If not, a £1,000 grant is available. Priority groups include young parents, young offenders and those with learning difficulties.

For more information on the financial support available for those taking on an apprentice, contact us on 01494 568944.

As well as the National Apprenticeship Service, the Apprenticeship Employer Bus is brought to the county by Buckinghamshire Business First, Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP) and the Business Is Great Britain campaign.
